Hugo Chavez photo exhibition opens in Minsk.

A photo exhibition celebrating the life of Hugo Chavez opened in the Rakurs Gallery of the National Library of Belorus on 13th August. 

"The exhibition presents the photographs that were not published before. They were taken at different stages of Hugo Chavez's life: childhood, school years in the Military Academy, political career. There are family photos,” Charge d'Affaires of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the Republic of Belarus Maria Antonia Cabeza said at the opening of the event.

According to her, Hugo Chavez had many positive qualities. One of the most striking was the ability to express his feelings, emotions in words. "He was a speaker with a special charisma that allowed him to reach out to ordinary people. Knowing the needs of the poor, Chavez always talked about it openly, emotionally and at the same time, in simple words so that everyone would understand him,” said Maria Antonia Cabeza.

The photo exhibition dedicated to the 61st anniversary of the birth of Hugo Chavez will be running until 27 August 2015.

Maduro: "Il Venezuela non può accettare le solite minacce imperialiste degli USA".

El Presidente de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, en nombre del Gobierno y del Pueblo venezolanos, rechaza y condena, de manera firme y categórica, cualquier pretensión de las potencias imperialistas de intervenir militarmente en territorio sirio, usando como excusa el ataque con armas químicas, perpetrado el 21 de agosto del año en curso, de origen hasta ahora desconocido.

En los acontecimientos de los últimos días se observan todos los elementos propios de los guiones imperiales para invadir países, sojuzgar a los pueblos y pisotear su dignidad, dejando tras si toda una estela de destrucción y muerte. Para justificar su acto de barbarie, los Estados Unidos con sus aliados acusan al Gobierno Sirio sin ningún tipo de evidencias, y sin esperar el informe concluyente de la Comisión de la ONU.

El Gobierno de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela denuncia que las amenazas de Estados Unidos y sus aliados hacia Damasco repite el mismo patrón de mentiras y manipulaciones utilizado contra Libia, Irak y Egipto, que sólo persigue controlar la riqueza petrolera de la región y expandir los mercados occidentales.

Estados Unidos y los países de la OTAN han armado y adiestrado escuadrones de terroristas en Siria, con la finalidad de intervenir y mantener el control del país.

Lo que ha conllevado a una guerra de conquista y destrucción del pueblo sirio que es baluarte histórico de la civilización y bastión de la estabilidad de la región árabe.

MOSCOW — Goodbye “Projected Street Number 5509.” Hello “Hugo ChavezStreet.”

That’s the new name for the Moscow road Venezuelan President Nicolas Madurodedicated in honor of his late predecessor, Hugo Chavez, in a northern neighborhood of Russia’s capital on Tuesday.

Chants from Venezuelans – “Chavez lives, the fight continues!” and “The people united will never be defeated!” – set the stage for Mr. Maduro, who appeared at the dedication ceremony along with OAO Rosneft Chief Executive Igor Sechin and a representative of the Moscow government.

He gave a passionate speech about his predecessor, describing Mr. Chavez as one of the fathers of the concept of a multipolar world. Mr. Sechin said the late Venezuelan leader will forever be in Russians’ hearts and minds. The Venezuelan president was in town with a number of other leaders for a gas producer’s conference.

Mr. Chavez, a long-time Kremlin ally and former tank commander turned populist firebrand, visited Moscow some 10 times before his death in March at age 58 from complications related to cancer.

Sergei Cheryomin of the Moscow government called Mr. Chavez “a great psychologist,” capable of relieving the tension in any conversation.

Mr. Maduro answered only one question at the ceremony, saying that “all of humanity” should protect National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, who is stuck in the transit zone of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. Mr. Maduro did not say whether his country was planning to approve an asylum application Mr. Snowden has submitted to Venezuela.

Mr. Maduro set flowers down on a plaque with Mr. Chavez’s name and made a swift exit. He was due in central Moscow, where he was scheduled to attend a folk-dancing performance with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Caracas, 27 giu. (TMNews) - Il Presidente Nicolas Maduro ha dichiarato che il Venezuela concederebbe "quasi certamente" asilo politico a Edward Snowden, l'ex analista della National Security Agency (Nsa) che ha rivelato al mondo i segreti del programma di sorveglianza Usa.

"Se presenta la richiesta, noi la valuteremo, e quasi certamente glielo concederemo, perchè l'asilo politico è un'istituzione del diritto umano internazionale per la tutela dei perseguitati", ha detto Maduro. LONDON — Hugo Chávez, a 21st-century socialist god destined to loom over his country the way his 20th-century communist predecessors from Moscow to Beijing do, was a self-styled man of the people. He rose to power in Venezuela, and won election after election there, as the embodiment of the humble mestizo challenging the entrenched privilege of the bourgeois oligarchy.

The inefficiency of the Chávez regime was prodigious — he contrived to leave his country’s finances in a shambles despite riding soaring oil revenues — and he enriched his revolutionary coterie through sweet deals, but his attachment to the cause of “el pueblo” (not least their health and education) remained the core of his appeal.

And yet this man of the left and the people could scarcely find a dictator he did not find seductive. He was a strong supporter of Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian despot whose ruthlessness has cost the lives of 70,000 of his own people. He backed Muammar el-Qaddafi of Libya to the last. He sided with Robert Mugabe in his despoilment of the Zimbabwean people. When millions of Iranians rose in 2009 to protest a stolen presidential election, Chávez stood firmly with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the uprising was suppressed with great brutality. Given a choice between British liberalism and Belarussian repression, Chávez did not hesitate.

Of course, Chávez was also the staunch ally of Fidel Castro, his Latin American mentor, but with Castro he at least shared socialist ideas as well as a web of economic interests, including an original oil-for-doctors exchange. With other dictatorial buddies he had little in common, at least on the surface.

But of course there was a unifying ideology at work here that outweighed Chávez’s professed embrace of popular will: A shared determination to confront and resist the United States and its allies in all their manifestations. Chávez was the anti-American ideologue par excellence. I once listened to him for hours in Caracas as he wove an endless but intermittently spellbinding speech around the theme of the predatory cowboy up north.

Chavez Exit No Major Threat to Russia’s Lucrative Deals

MOSCOW, January 9 (RIA Novosti) – Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez’s failing health and possible departure from power are unlikely to pose an immediate threat to Russia’s multi-billion-dollar arms and energy contracts with his country, despite his direct personal support for the deals, Russian analysts told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

Chavez, who is continuing his fight against cancer and hasn’t appeared in public in about a month, asked parliament yesterday to postpone his January 10 inauguration, citing doctors’ recommendations.

Russia has intensified cooperation with Venezuela since Chavez came to power in 1999, signing multi-billion-dollar contracts with the Latin American country in the arms, oil and gas spheres. The military-technology contracts, often short on publicly available details, have been piling up in recent years. Between 2005 and 2007, Caracas signed $4 billion worth of deals with Russia to buy Sukhoi fighter jets, combat helicopters and small arms. Chavez’s government also secured a $2.2-billion loan in 2010 to purchase Russian T-72 tanks and S-300 air defense systems.

Energy deals have also enhanced bilateral ties. Major joint ventures involve development of the Junin 6 and Junin 3 oilfields on the Orinoco River.
